Missions and Ministry

As disciples of Jesus, we are called to take the gospel across the street and across the sea. We are also called to help those in need in Jesus’ name. West Hickory Baptist Church is involved in a number of missions and ministries that are making a difference in our world.

MISSIONS
WHBC designates a portion of our giving to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. This money is pooled with the giving of other SBC churches to fund international and North American missions, as well as six SBC seminaries that train future church leaders.

WHBC also participates in the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for International Missions https://www.imb.org/generosity/lottie-moon-christmas-offering/ and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions https://www.anniearmstrong.com/.

Our other international missions involvement comes through support of Peter and Sharon McMillan through designated giving. Peter and Sharon serve with TEAM in Madrid, Spain. This YouTube link highlights some of their work https://www.youtube.com/@psMcMillan .

Locally, we have been pleased to see one of our own members, Terry Dickerson, be sent out to our local community to revitalize a church. WHBC has supported with prayer, giving, and sending the work of Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Highland area of Hickory. We are thankful for what God is doing in this assembly. MINISTRY
West Hickory Baptist Church provides a monthly Food Ministry to help those in the community in need. The Food Ministry offers prayer, counseling and groceries (non-perishable items) for those in need . The Food Ministry is opened from 9:00 am- 11:00 am on the third Thursday of the month.
If you would like more information about our Food Ministry please contact the church at 828.327.4286.

WHBC also provides a monthly meal for the Safe Harbor ministry in Hickory https://safeharbornc.org/

The ladies and girls at WHBC regularly meet to make blankets and quilts for the Pregancy Care Center https://www.pcchickory.com/ . This ministry, called Love Covers has been one way, along with financial support, that we have supported pro-life efforts in Catawba County.

Last year, WHBC was privileged to host the Bethel Colony of Mercy ministy from Lenoir https://bethelcolony.org/ . This faith-based ministry aims by the grace of God to see the chains of addiction broken for men and women all over our community.

WHBC is also a regular host of speakers from the Gideons https://www.gideons.org/ and is open to other ways we can be involved in community ministry.

Finally, at WHBC, we seek to care for our own. Faithful members regularly write cards to the homebound. Other members check in with the sick by phone. Some members provide meals for other members in the midst of various trials and the pastoral staff seeks to visit those in the hospital and nursing home, as well as those who are homebound.
